LIVORNO
A different Tuscany
Livorno's history dates back to the 11th century but the city was established as the port of Florence and built as an ideal city by the Medici in the 1500s.
Today it is one of Italy's most important ports and the second largest city in Tuscany.
The Livornesi people are friendly, curious, funny and just a bit loud. They will always try to help you even if you don't share a language. Although many of them speak English.
The local food scene focuses, like everything else in Livorno, around the sea. You will be served excellent fish and seafood dishes. Be sure to try crayfish, calamari or maybe cacciucco, the famous local fish soup, at a restaurant overlooking the marina at sunset.
